The bad news is, the technology for a pollution-free bus that doen't need cables at all is not coming any time soon. Fast forward two years - RATP Shepherd's Bush runs electric buses only. Another three garages are being electrified and the majority of the new contracts will be run by electric buses only. 49s, 281s, 71s. 65s etc. So, no cables needed after all :)

I fucking died a little bit when u pronounced the Slovenian one... Why do English people always feel offended when their stuff is not pronounced right, but don't give a single care to learn how to pronounce others stuff right. PTUJ - as in PTUY That J at the end is pronounced like the I in the Oi.

Former londoner here. Can I just say this is bollocks. Bikes are literally the quickest way to get round london. They are more maneuverable than cars and quicker considering the traffic jams at rush hour. I used to cycle to school for years there and was fine. Plus the amount of cycle routes on the side of roads are wide and safe enough to use, you just gotta instinctively know where to go and what to do... And cycling trainers out there do tell you how to maneuver through London easily. So this whole interview at the beginning that people don't use bikes cause the roads are dangerous is laughable.

The midlands is definitely the buffer, because I dont think of people from say, rugby or worcester or even birmingham belonging to either north or south

I was working as a temp in a depot that health-checked, repaired and serviced school buses when the GLC was abolished. One day an auditor from the council arrived. He was amused to discover that there was a chain of these installations across London, collectively employing hundreds of people, of which no-one in a senior, decision-making position was previously aware. The old GLC was labyrinthine.

In the bible women come from the South of England and men from the North of England. The only men that live in the South are the type of men that sneak on to lifeboats on the titanic when it was women and children first. Like that guy in the film. We are physically stronger in the north and bigger. Due to the higher elevation and colder winters. If a civil war broke out between the north and south...the south would lose. The only thing stopping northerners taking the whole island is the police. Once amthey are gone or society collapses....thank you very much. But then we'll go back up north after taking it. Because the atmosphere is better and the quality of the air is better.

Fun fact: Sussex, Wessex, Essex, and Middlesex, are all named for points on a compass, South, West, East, and Middle respectively. But why Middle and not North, you ask. Well, Little Timmy, there's no north because no one wants to be called Nosex.

I've never understood buroughs in london, always thought they were basically just suburbs with their own council. But it's really more like London is a small state of its own, and each burough is its own little city, or electorate.
5 tuntia sittenDUNCAN ROBINSON
It is a difficult one; certainly I would say Manchester. Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Hull and any further north than this is in the 'north', but not sure about Cheshire, places like Prestbury, Alderley Edge and Wilmslow are pretty 'well heeled' - a 'pocket' of the south sort of within the north (or north Midlands?). Then Stoke-On-Trent is further south than Cheshire, but in the north culturally.

You guys need to stop worry about Brexit, and just do what you've always done, focus on your greatest export commodity - comedy.
6 tuntia sittenRemiel Pollard
@Jay Foreman well, you know, you always have the Internet. And I hear Netflix specials are the way to go now anyway. Our boy over here in Australia, Isaac Butterfield, just did one, and hell, he's funny but you guys are funnier so I'm sure someone'll offer you a deal if you ask for one. Extra points for a creative method of making your case to get one, which I have no doubt you can pull off. Then your show goes overseas without having to worry about tour visas at all.
4 tuntia sittenJay Foreman
Because of Brexit, it’s harder for comedians to tour in Europe. A comedy festival in France has been cancelled next year, and it’s nothing to do with COVID, but because not enough UK acts can work without visas. So, yes, even our comedy exports are affected by Brexit, and I am so angry!

Ohhh! I know this historical origins of this one! The concept of the "North-South divide" goes back to the Anglo Saxon heptarchy. In that seven kingdom system Mercia was considered the most northern kingdom in the "South" (Mercia literally means "border people" ) , which makes the River Humber - being Mercia's northern boundary - the dividing "line." And who said a degree in Anglo Saxon literature was useless?! 😂

Why are so many Australian place names so hard to pronounce? Because during the war they strategically used aboriginal names (& other non aboriginal names) near their bases with letters that Asians couldn’t easily pronounce so it would be hard for them to communicate or navigate & therefore defeat the potential enemies with the cunning use of words

Loved it. It had a very "secret life of machines" vibe to it. Talking about history in a matter of fact way with a little shrug. Its very nice. No over the top drama or cold book reading. Good on ya.

The only reason I guessed this was old was because he looked so...late 2000s with his slightly saggy jeans and slightly too long hair. It's subtle. I know.

Like, really, this feat would have been easier for a Japanese person singing a Japanese song.

a popular German carthographer put a non existing town city next to the A2 and called it Bielefeld. The trap city was way to obvious and people find out pretty soon, as you could pass by the fake-city on the A2 without beeing able to see a city if you look out your car windows... There is just nothing .

Strewth is not used as an exclamation of disappointment, as you did. It is either surprise (at what another says) or confirmation of what you are saying (which is the original, from "God's truth"). And is very rare except in rural areas, and rare even there. But you guys are regularly facetious, so you probably know that. Or perhaps don't care and were just using random words to be amusing.

So how do you pronounce Shrewsbury?
17 tuntia sittenLuke Jordan
Pretty sure Cirencester was pronounced sister, and Sandwich was pronounced sanich. Still follows the rules of ignoring the letters in the word.
