You heard right... 980kg. That's 2161 lbs, USA. The same weight as a Mk1 Mazda MX5, but with 3x the cylinder count. This is an impressive machine.

@Gottlieb Dee What is the safety relationship in all this, whether you crash in a McLaren F1 391 km/ h or over 450 km/h in Chiron, a car weighing a ton more and a pile of airbags will not help you. In cars of such segments, it should be anything goes when it comes to regulations and safety systems. There are so few of these cars with the rest of the car buyers for over 3 million pounds they will rather not use 100% of their capabilities. A couple of laps on Goodwood and testing at Evo and Autocar. Jay Leno has already ordered one.

If I was in the place of Michael Mauer (Man responsible for the Porsche 918 Spyder) I would have improved the 918 Spyder in every way possible. I would have called it the "Meredith" how Porsche named its 918 Prototypes after people's names.

This car gives us all the proof to confirm that the Mclaren F1 can actually be described in back rooms as re~badged “Gordon Murray”. The Mclaren marque , and the Mclaren F1 car itself, have bucketloads of his DNA running through their life force. The current Mclaren range has gone- meteoric and a bit rogue. This vehicle featured is the very worthy successor to the most expensive and collectible vehicle ever. The fan is Gordon’s gift to the car that bears his name. The fan was always viewed as some kind of a threat to the powers that be. It’s back and there’s no one to get in the way.

The fan is silly. He's famous for "inventing" the fan car (sorry Brits, a Texan did it 8 years earlier), It's an aesthetic choice here, nothing else, and I'd rather use that space for a hundred other things. Over $3m for a two-wheel-drive stick? Does it have a forward facing camera on the sides? Imagine sitting your ass in traffic or wanting to pass on a highway but you're in the MIDDLE of a car and you are the smallest, lowest thing on the road. How do you check for oncoming traffic? Moving 3 feet thataway? No thanks.

Late to the party but this car is amazing. Gordon Murray is a true legend of both motor racing and manufacturing road cars. It's fascinating to see what such a mind with no budget can create. The level of detail is awe inspiring. And usable. Apparently. I will never know. I won't mention the price as it is irrelevant to Gordon and his intent. Mr. Murray and his hero Colin Chapman RIP, get sports cars and made the market take notice. Still, 2.5M sterling or more could fund a race season or more in GTWorldChallenge with a team of Porsche GT3. One can dream.

I'm not quite sure but does the car have tiptronic gear change on the steering.? CRAP - take it and race it - put up or shut up.. this isn't a super car. Go prove it is worthy of all this hype. Plenty of cars look great on paper and fall to pieces in a real race against tough competition. Even if it doesn't win they could at least show they can compete - but they won't for the obvious reason - they KNOW it won't hold up.

@_ OK is the Porsche 911 a driving pleasure car? I owned on and dove it over a million miles with the same engine; no rebuilds. The 911RS won Le Mann, So did Ford GT, so did Audi, Jaguar, Triumph, Rolls Royce; Ferrari, Lotus, etc - they proved themselves while this car wants to avoid competition; fine just don't call it a super car or anything like that because it probably can't compete and prove itself. If it isn't a performance car; why not reduce the power to 200 or 300 horse power - surely you don't need all that horse power for cruising the highway. Just by the way the Audi R8; set the record at Le Mann and drove the equivalent of Boston the LA and then to San Francisco in 24 hours; and this is not highway miles this is with hard braking and cornering and other cars in the way. If you have a million dollar car that probably would break under those conditions before you get to New York; well it really isn't a performance car; its a fancy fragile toy. The T50 is in the same position; if they don't compete Its just a fancy rich persons toy to sit in the garage in fear it might break.

Uukausi sitten

@LiteStuff LLC as Gordon Murray said, THIS is the driving pleasure focused car. The t50s is the track car

Uukausi sitten

@_ Having power isn't worth much if you can't go and drive the car and apply it to the road for a substantial period. There used to be a big drag race following and often the hottest biggest engine car didn't make it to the end of a 1/4 straight road. Hence the competitive car makers created the Le Mann type race on real roads with turns; braking accelerations etc for 24 hours to prove the durability power maneuverability and functionality of their designs; those that don't show up; not even with a private owner - you have to presume they know they can't compete... and so they hide and talk about their paper tigers.

HYPE CAR is more like it - go get it on Le Mann and prove it can be compared to F1 ; or any real race car; I am tired of these toys that want a big price and can't prove themselves. My take is you can't prove it ; you've proved it already - if you don't race it is because you'd be humiliated.

@LiteStuff LLC So Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, they all don’t enter their hypercars into racing. So they are all unproven in your opinion?

2 kuukautta sitten
LiteStuff LLC
LiteStuff LLC

If the R8 can fit a class so can any other car; the race officials change the class spec all the time; and they generally will do their best allow most any production car; someone has to represent the car. If this isn't done it is just an excuse. Essentially the makers control the officials not the other way around.

Love the F1, great to see the rebirth of an icon. Just adding my own two cents, I am not sure if its the lighting and the reflection of the glass but the headlights look huge on this car. They over domainate the front view. Then the rear wheel huncies seem to look quite disproportionate to the sleek lines at the front of the car. Hopefully the car looks better in the sunlight.
